Funky power banks that blend sustainability with style
Looking for funky yet highly functional tech to power up your gear on the go? You just found it. Much like gomi’s sustainable speakers, the power bank is an environmentally friendly option that’s made from consumer waste — and its super-slick design appeals to both minimalists and maximalists alike.
Handmade in the Brighton studio, the long-lasting 10,000 mAh gomi power bank is crafted from recycled plastic offcuts, making each marble finish completely unique. The custom colourways come in an array of beautiful blue hues, pretty pinks, burnt oranges and deep purples, as well as vibrant multi-coloured and monochrome one-of-a-kind patterns. Everyday essentials needn’t be boring.
And the likes of Paul Smith and Vans agree: we collaborated with the British fashion house and the sportswear staple to create funky gomi power banks that take on their iconic motifs. The Paul Smith design is crafted with the multicoloured (and instantly recognisable) Signature Stripe that’s made up of over 40 shades. Those with a monochromatic mentality will naturally gravitate to the Vans iteration, which has a bold black and white Checkerboard finish inspired by the cult classic slip-on sneakers.
But aesthetics aren’t everything. In 2022, a record 62 million metric tonnes of e-waste were produced — and it's on track to rise another 32% to 82 million by 2030. What’s worse, less than a quarter (22.3%) of the e-waste was properly collected and recycled, meaning US$62 billion worth of natural resources, that could be recovered and re-used, are currently increasing pollution risks to communities across the world.
With global levels of e-waste on the rise, shopping second-hand really is the most sustainable option. Leasing your products is another relatively recent alternative. Problem is, older power banks tend to lose capacity after a few years of use. That’s why our fun and fresh power banks make the best eco-friendly alternatives. Most of what’s available on the market at the moment have 0-5% of post-consumer waste streams in terms of product weight — for gomi, it's 73.9%.
The gomi power bank is not only made from recycled plastics and powered by repurposed e-bike batteries, enough to charge most smartphones up to three times and up to two devices at the same time. It also has over 50% fewer CO2 emissions than comparable portable chargers.
Will it age the same as other hand-held power banks? No. The gomi power bank is deftly made for effortless repairs — the modular designs ensure circular lifespans. Think: repairs for life.
The finishing touch? gomi pouches. Made in the UK by Angus Clifford, these handmade designs are crafted from upcycled delivery driver uniforms and lined with a super-soft inner fabric that offers full protection.
Buy less. Buy funky.
