ESG-FRIENDLY GIFTS THAT KEEP ON GIVING

Gifts that put people and planet first. Profit second.

ESG? Environmental. Social. Governance. It describes a set of standards that companies can use to measure their impact on sustainability.

The strategic practice helps brands and businesses outline and reduce risks, facilitate sustainable growth and make sure that their carbon footprint is low — as well as harbour a happy labour force and host of eco-conscious consumers. And this is why gomi products make excellent ESG-friendly gifts.

Shout out to the impact-minimising gomi speaker, power bank, wireless charger or cable — designed to last for life.

Like other responsible businesses operating with a circular economy model, gomi believes in reducing the amount of e-waste piling up in landfill, as well as raising awareness surrounding the value of current resources available.

Levels of e-waste are said to grow to an astounding 82 million metric tonnes by 2030 (which makes up 70% of all toxic waste, globally) and the same report also states that global e-waste collection and recycling is expected to drop to 20% in the same time.

What’s worse, is that e-waste is also negatively impacting human health. It’s made up of elements such as mercury, lead, cadmium, polybrominated flame retardants, barium and lithium, which can damage the brain, kidney, heart, liver and skeletal system — as well as affecting the nervous and reproductive systems that lead to birth defects and disease.

But recent research tells us that plastic use can be reduced by nearly 80% in the next 20 years, if more brands adopt circular economy practises and consumers shop sustainably.

Our ESG-friendly products make use of post-consumer plastic waste (think: un-recyclable bags, bubble wrap and food packaging), collected from local sources before being processed and recycled into innovative tech gear. And the modular design we use when crafting the gomi speaker, power bank and wireless charger allows for infinite repairs — no more unnecessary e-waste needs to go to landfill.

Taking a closer look, the gomi speaker is powered by lithium cells recycled from e-bikes which offer up to 32 hours of non-stop listening from a single 2-hour charge, while the power bank, also powered by repurposed e-bike batteries, can recharge typical smartphones up to three times. By utilising retired e-bikes batteries instead of mining for new batteries, manufacturing is 50% less CO2 intensive than other power banks and speakers of the same capacity.

Other ESG-friendly virtues? The Brighton-based gomi studio also ensures all employees are paid well above the Brighton Living Wage, while any international craftsmen or workers on the payroll are compensated above the regional minimum wage and are in keeping with local labour practises.

The last century may have ushered in many vital technological innovations and advances but we’re living in the eco-era of reuse, refurbish and repair.

Move over unsustainable ‘fast tech’ — opt instead for ESG-friendly products (and gifts).
